Confluent has announced an Oracle XStream CDC Source Connector for Confluent Cloud and Confluent Platform, with general availability planned soon, intended to stream Oracle database changes into Apache Kafka with lower latency and greater throughput than its earlier LogMiner-based CDC connector. Built on Oracle XStream Out technology, the connector captures database changes as logical change records, handles large or long-running transactions using disk-backed storage, supports checkpointing, recovery, schema-history tracking, and Oracle Real Application Clusters integration. Confluent states that the connector can improve throughput and latency by two to three times while reducing licensing and operational costs by avoiding a separate Oracle GoldenGate license and offering managed deployment options. The captured data can be routed to Kafka topics, governed through Schema Registry, transformed with Apache Flink, and delivered to downstream systems such as data warehouses, data lakes, and event-driven applications. Deployment requires Oracle database preparation, including XStream activation, archive and supplemental logging, user configuration, and XStream Out setup, while Confluent Platform installations additionally require Oracle client software and dependencies.
