About Plushcap
Plushcap is coded and maintained by Matt Makai. Matt consults on developer marketing, relations, & experience while building Plushcap. He was a software engineer and tech lead for the first ten years of his professional career and then ran Developer Evangelism and built the Developer Content teams at Twilio for over 9 years, from $30m ARR through $4b ARR. He was also the VP of Developer Relations and Developer Experience at AssemblyAI and LaunchDarkly, as well as VP of Developer Relations at DigitalOcean.
Other projects by Matt include Python for Entrepreneurs, Full Stack Python, and Coding Across America.
You can reach him by email at [email protected]. Matt can't respond to every email, but he will do his best to reply when possible.
While working at Twilio, I came up with a hypothesis: companies that run a self-service business focused on software developers need to have the majority of what they create be public, such as documentation, tutorials, videos, product information, and everything else related to convincing a technical user to give a product a try. If that content is public, then it can be aggregated and analyzed for patterns and trends. Those patterns and trends are useful inputs into other valuable areas, such as figuring out what playbooks companies are running and how well they are working to drive their businesses.
With that hypothesis in my head, I started scraping data from some initial companies, and soon the tool became so useful for running my own teams that I knew I had to keep building it, even if it was just for my own career. However, so many founders, VCs, marketers, and other developer relations people found it valuable that I tried to make Plushcap a bit more polished so anyone could use it for their own purposes.
I work on this project every day, and post updates to the changelog whenever they are noteworthy.
