Summary

YugabyteDB Resource Governance is a CPU management capability designed to help organizations consolidate many databases onto shared clusters while limiting noisy-neighbor effects that can occur when one workload consumes excessive compute. It dynamically applies elastic fair-share CPU allocation across active databases during contention, using Linux cgroups at the tablet-server level and accounting for both foreground YSQL queries and related background operations such as compactions and flushes. Databases may use unused CPU capacity freely, but administrators can optionally set hard CPU caps to restrict maximum consumption without reserving idle resources. The feature is intended for SaaS platforms, enterprises, and cloud-native environments seeking lower infrastructure costs and improved utilization while retaining predictable application performance. Resource Governance is available in early access for YugabyteDB Aeon and YugabyteDB Anywhere, with UI-based monitoring and configuration in Aeon, manual configuration for Anywhere, and future plans to govern resources beyond CPU.
