Summary

Lightspeed and Fortune’s fourth Cyber60 list included WorkOS, while an accompanying survey of 200 CISOs at large U.S. companies highlighted growing concerns about AI agent identity and access management. Although 77% of respondents have AI agents in production and 98% are using, piloting, or exploring them, only 20% reported maintaining a complete inventory of their agents, and just 34% use or would use dedicated identities with scoped permissions for each agent. Many organizations instead rely on human credentials, shared service accounts, or mixed approaches, creating attribution and access-control challenges. Agent identity, authorization, and access governance was the leading AI security category CISOs planned to evaluate, driven by concerns about compromised agents, unmanaged non-human identities, and risks in agent-related tools and integrations. The survey also found that AI-related security incidents have increased, confidence in teams’ ability to manage AI risks has declined, and many companies permit AI to execute some security responses without prior human approval. The report emphasizes per-agent identities, limited permissions, automatic credential management, clear action attribution, and comprehensive inventories as central needs for organizations deploying AI agents.
