What is WorkOS Airlock? Intent-based access control for AI agents
Blog post from WorkOS
WorkOS Airlock is an early-access authorization layer designed to govern AI agent actions across connected business systems by evaluating proposed API calls against declared intent and organizational policies. In the Agent Night demonstration, Airlock sat between an agent and WorkOS Pipes connections to Linear and Gmail, allowing the agent to read planning issues and send emails without exposing provider credentials or granting unrestricted use of broad account permissions. Intent supplies task context, while policies define enforceable limits on operations, recipients, and content; natural-language policies can be converted into fixed API rules and runtime checks, including checks against contextual data such as mailbox history. In the demo, Airlock allowed a routine planning update, blocked an email that would disclose token-spend figures under a financial-data policy, and required IT administrator approval for a previously unused distribution list. Organizations using this model are advised to route all required actions through Airlock, avoid giving agents direct provider credentials that could bypass controls, and test both permitted and prohibited workflows while independently verifying provider outcomes and the accuracy of agent-generated content.
