How to add SSO to your B2B SaaS app with WorkOS AuthKit
Blog post from WorkOS
WorkOS AuthKit simplifies enterprise SSO implementation by handling SAML, OIDC, routing, and identity-provider integrations without requiring SSO-specific application code, leaving developers to focus on tenant organization design, connection administration, user migration effects, and testing. Applications should create and persist WorkOS organization IDs during customer onboarding, use those IDs rather than email domains to authorize tenant access, and account for the limitation of one identity-provider connection per organization, potentially mapping one commercial customer to multiple organizations. Customers can configure their own connections through short-lived, protected Admin Portal links, reducing support work, but enabling SSO automatically disables other authentication methods for that organization, making advance communication essential for existing password users. Just-in-time provisioning supports users on verified domains, while guests and contractors may require invitations or separate authentication policies. Reliable deployment requires testing service-provider- and identity-provider-initiated sign-in, guest-domain behavior, and error cases, as well as separating staging from production configuration. The account should also plan for directory sync through SCIM, since SSO controls sign-in but does not automatically remove departed employees’ memberships or access.
