5 Lessons We Learned Adding Dark Mode to WorkOS

Designing a dark mode version of an app presents its own set of challenges, including ensuring accessibility for users with varying vision capabilities and maintaining visual hierarchy. WorkOS recently implemented a dark mode feature and shared some lessons learned during the process. These include measuring contrast ratio to meet accessibility requirements, avoiding pure black colors to prevent eye strain, re-evaluating color palettes for better readability on dark backgrounds, establishing visual hierarchy through elevation colors, and giving users the option to choose their preferred theme.
