Upsun Cloud has introduced task containers, an ephemeral, on-demand infrastructure option for run-to-completion workloads such as AI agents, batch processing, data imports and exports, heavy migrations, report generation, and webhook-driven jobs. Defined under a new `tasks:` section in `.upsun/config.yaml`, tasks have independent images and build steps, can access linked project services through standard relationships, and can be triggered through the console, CLI, or API. They are positioned as an alternative to running resource-intensive jobs in application containers, where they may affect live traffic, or in persistent workers that incur idle-time costs; tasks instead use per-second billing only while running. Features include configurable resource limits and timeouts, activity logs, isolated containers, clean filesystems for each run, and short-lived workload authorization tokens for scoped runtime API access. Tasks are available on Upsun Cloud Flex plans, require a project to include at least one application, do not serve HTTP or directly connect with other tasks, and have a default project concurrency limit of three runs, with additional triggers queued.
