Introducing DNS filtering by Control D

Tailscale has introduced DNS filtering by Control D as a purchasable service through its sales team, allowing organizations to apply DNS security and content-filtering policies directly across their tailnets without a separate procurement process. Administrators add Control D as a nameserver in the Tailscale console, configure default or custom rules in Control D, and use Tailscale ACLs to assign those rules to specific users, groups, tags, or devices, with DNS queries sent through encrypted DNS. Tailscale bills the service per user rather than per device or infrastructure node, while Control D remains responsible for rule management through its dashboard or API. Control D combines threat intelligence, malicious domain and IP detection, and machine learning to block malware, phishing, suspicious destinations, unwanted content categories, and selected apps or services, while also supporting custom block, allow, redirect, and rerouting rules.
