Introducing the Snowplow Limited Use License Agreement
Blog post from Snowplow
Snowplow, originally founded as an open-source project, is transitioning to an enterprise software company with a new licensing structure to support its mission of empowering users to own their first-party customer behavioral data. Starting January 8, 2024, Snowplow will implement the Snowplow Limited Use License Agreement (SLULA) for its core pipeline components, which introduces restrictions on running the software in production with high availability without a commercial license and prohibits creating competitive products. Existing open-source users will be affected by these changes when upgrading, while Snowplow Behavioral Data Platform customers remain unaffected. The update aims to sustain future developments, including cost reduction, increased processing speed, and support for non-HTTP protocols. Snowplow also offers other licenses like the Apache 2.0 for tracking SDKs, the Snowplow Community License (SCL) for libraries, and the Snowplow Personal and Academic License (SPAL) for educational purposes. The company emphasizes gratitude towards its open-source community and invites affected users to discuss their options.
