Google Play Class Action Settlement

Google announced a proposed class-action settlement offering payouts to developers earning less than $2 million annually from Google Play between August 17, 2016, and December 31, 2021, in response to allegations of monopolistic practices. Pending court approval, the settlement fund amounts to $90 million, with eligible developers receiving a minimum of $250, and some potentially receiving over $200,000. The settlement criteria indicate that 99% of Android developers qualify for compensation. Google also committed to maintaining a reduced commission rate of 15% on the first $1 million in annual revenue until at least May 25, 2025, and plans to introduce an "Indie App Corner" to promote independent apps on the Google Play homepage.
