Configuring iOS Subscription Offers
Blog post from RevenueCat
In iOS 12.2, Apple introduced "Subscription Offers," a feature allowing developers to provide custom pricing and trials for existing and lapsed subscribers. Configured in App Store Connect and implemented through StoreKit classes, these offers can be categorized into three types: pay-up-front, pay-as-you-go, and free trials. Despite their potential to retain and win back subscribers, the feature is limited by its complexity and the requirement for cryptographic signatures to prevent fraud. While the feature allows temporary discounts and incentives, its utility is restricted, particularly since it doesn't address price testing for new users. The added complexity and limited application have led to skepticism about its widespread adoption, although companies like RevenueCat plan to support and enhance its use through additional tools for managing subscriber retention and incentives.
