Account deletion rules on the App Store
Blog post from RevenueCat
Apple has implemented a new rule for app developers that mandates providing users with a clear and accessible way to delete their accounts, aiming to enhance user control over personal data. The rule, effective from June 30, 2022, requires apps that allow account creation to also offer an account deletion option, with the stipulation that merely disabling or deactivating accounts is insufficient. If the deletion process involves a website, a direct link must be provided, and users must be informed about the effect on subscriptions and billing. Apple does not offer automatic subscription cancellation tools, so developers must guide users on managing subscriptions separately. Additionally, for apps using RevenueCat, customers can be deleted either manually or programmatically, though this does not affect their subscriptions with Apple or Google, which can lead to automatic recreation of accounts as anonymous users if subscriptions remain active.
