Transforming Engineers: How we grew AI coding adoption at Plaid

May 08, 2025 was the date when Plaid transformed its engineers into AI power users. The company had a top priority to help all engineers become AI proficient while keeping the ship moving. To scale their AI engineering program, they streamlined procurement processes, ran highly successful internal "AI Day" events, and encouraged adoption through various strategies such as creating in-house content showcasing common workflows, targeting engineering managers with training content, and complementing AI tools with existing favorite IDEs. Despite growing pains and challenges, Plaid is expanding its efforts to help engineers make the best use of AI tools, focusing on non-coding tasks like incident response, data analysis, and code review.
