Summary

Apple’s Guided Access is an iOS-only feature that locks an iPhone or iPad to a single app, while Android offers a comparable capability called app pinning, also labeled screen pinning, Pin windows, or Pin app on some Samsung devices. App pinning is enabled in device settings and activated from the Recents screen, preventing users from switching apps, reaching the home screen, or opening notifications until the app is unpinned. Although suitable for temporary, individual-device use, it has limitations for organizations because it generally relies on the device PIN, leaves some hardware controls available, requires manual setup and re-pinning, and may not persist as desired after restarts. For larger fleets and more durable restrictions, mobile device management tools can enforce kiosk mode remotely, either limiting devices to one app or allowing a selected set of approved apps for uses such as retail kiosks, shared field devices, and classrooms.
