Self-updating external docs is an infinite market
Blog post from Mintlify
Patrick Foster argues that self-updating external documentation could become an “infinite market” as software companies expand their products faster through coding agents and other AI-enabled productivity tools. He notes that growing code output and product complexity are already making documentation difficult to maintain manually, while agents increasingly account for documentation traffic and require more comprehensive, structured information than human users. Although internal agents can draw on private sources such as codebases, support conversations, and company systems, external customer agents cannot safely access those materials, creating a need for curated public knowledge. Foster describes self-updating documentation as a “truth engine” that would continuously convert internal product knowledge into accurate, secure, and agent-ready external documentation, though doing so would require broad organizational understanding, verification of information, and effective content organization.
