Less is more: Improving editor performance
Blog post from Mintlify
Mintlify has substantially improved editor performance for large documentation pages by reducing unnecessary rendering and serialization work, with benefits increasing as files grow from thousands to tens of thousands of lines. The update uses virtualization to render only visible content and open accordion sections, reducing some stress-test scenarios from more than 5,000 React views to two. It also introduces incremental serialization that reuses unchanged document blocks and rewrites only modified sections, accelerating first edits by up to 40 times and markdown-mode switching by up to 90 times. Further serializer changes replace quadratic processing with linear scaling by tracking lightweight output summaries instead of repeatedly scanning previously generated text, reducing a 20,000-paragraph serialization from 13.9 seconds to 69 milliseconds. Across a 25,534-line internal stress-test file, these and additional optimizations produced an overall 13-fold speedup, while larger files showed improvements of up to 160 times for initial keystrokes and around 100 times for opening 100,000-line pages.
