Summary

Merge has introduced credential bootstrapping for Merge Unified, a feature designed to simplify migration of existing customer integrations by allowing companies to submit an already obtained OAuth 2.0 access token rather than requiring customers to reauthorize through Merge Link. The feature can support migrations from in-house systems or other providers, bulk onboarding, and authorization flows that remain within a company’s own product interface. A backend sends integration, customer, and token details to Merge, which validates the credentials with the third-party platform, creates or reuses a Linked Account, initiates synchronization, and triggers the standard account-linked webhook. Failed validation can result from expired tokens, insufficient scopes, or missing connection details, in which case customers must reauthorize. Credential bootstrapping is currently enabled individually by Merge for supported organizations and integrations, while selective-sync integrations can still direct customers to choose the data Merge may access without presenting another authorization screen.
