Grafana Labs recently held its first company-wide hackathon, encouraging employees, known as Grafanistas, to engage in creative and innovative problem-solving over the course of a week, with normal work schedules temporarily adjusted to accommodate the event. The hackathon, which attracted participation from 125 employees, representing over a quarter of the company, fostered cross-functional collaboration across various teams, such as sales, engineering, IT, product marketing, and UX. The event was met with enthusiasm from both participants and the broader staff, who observed the projects presented by the five finalist teams during an all-hands meeting and participated in voting for the winner, alongside a panel of judges who awarded additional category-specific honors. The hackathon not only resulted in the development of inventive projects but also facilitated connections between employees from different parts of the organization, as highlighted by Senior Software Engineer Yas Ekinci, who appreciated the productivity achieved in a short timeframe and the opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world.
