Grafana 2.0, the future, and raintank
Blog post from Grafana Labs
In 2014, Grafana, an open-source analytics and monitoring dashboard tool, experienced significant growth and development under the leadership of its creator, Torkel Ödegaard. After its initial release in January 2014, Grafana quickly gained popularity within the Graphite community, leading Ödegaard to dedicate himself to working on it full-time. As the tool's user base expanded, Ödegaard received support from sponsors like Squarespace, Dreamhost, and Demonware, and began collaborating with Raj Dutt and Anthony Woods to form Raintank, a company focused on open-source metric and monitoring solutions. Plans for Grafana 2.0 include a redesigned frontend architecture supporting both standalone and backend modes, integrated user databases, multi-tenant accounts, and server-side panel rendering, all while ensuring Grafana remains fully open-source.
