Coverage-first or cost-first: two ways to automatically apply Adaptive Metrics' recommendations
Blog post from Grafana Labs
Grafana Labs has made Adaptive Metrics auto-apply generally available with two modes for automatically implementing metric-resolution recommendations: coverage-first and the new cost-first mode. Coverage-first applies every recommendation immediately, including those that increase active series counts, maximizing access to full-resolution data as query patterns change but potentially raising costs. Cost-first automatically accepts all series-reducing recommendations, then ranks series-increasing recommendations by impact and applies only those that keep total active series at or below the cycle’s starting level. Organizations can select different modes for telemetry segments such as teams, environments, or clusters, using coverage-first for critical, well-understood data and cost-first where query behavior may be unpredictable or cost-sensitive. Both modes are available to Grafana Cloud Adaptive Metrics users, although the company recommends creating exemptions for essential data and notes that configuration requires an Admin role.
