New research: AI helps Mac admins ship changes quickly, but rollback often takes days
Blog post from Fleet
Fleet’s survey of more than 250 enterprise IT practitioners finds that Mac administration is increasingly treated as an engineering discipline, with AI, code editors, CI/CD tools, and declarative device management becoming common parts of administrators’ workflows. Most respondents use AI for troubleshooting, scripting, and configuration authoring, and 86% allow AI-generated output to reach production after review, yet 69% cannot roll back a bad configuration within an hour and 43% need more than a day. The report argues that this gap between rapid AI-assisted deployment and slow recovery creates operational risk, particularly as teams contend with Apple’s frequent release cadence and mixed-device environments. It recommends managing device configurations as code through version control and pull-request reviews, allowing teams to track changes, retain human oversight, and reverse problematic deployments more quickly.
