Introducing Browser Tokens for Agentic Payments
Blog post from Evervault
Evervault has introduced Browser Tokens, a payment method designed to let AI agents complete online purchases without accessing users’ real card numbers, CVVs, or passwords. The system provides agents with format-preserving stand-in values, then routes browser traffic through Evervault’s proxy, which replaces approved tokens with the real encrypted data only when requests reach allowlisted merchant or payment-processing hosts and within a defined time limit. The company says this can reduce PCI DSS exposure for agent and browser operators while allowing merchants to receive conventional card payments without changing their checkout systems. Browser Tokens support Chromium-based headless browsers, can be used for account passwords as well as payment data, and retain user involvement for 3D Secure or MFA challenges. Evervault positions the product as an alternative to emerging network-issued agentic tokens, virtual cards, and browser-based secret vaults, citing broader card coverage and merchant compatibility, while offering controls over destinations, expiration, data types, and network location; production pricing begins at $0.25 per card session.
