Python SDK Preview: Sync for Robots and AI at the Edge
Blog post from Ditto
Ditto has released its Edge SDK for Python in public preview, extending its offline-first local database and peer-to-peer synchronization capabilities to Python applications running on Linux and Apple Silicon Macs. The SDK stores JSON-like documents locally, enables SQL-like queries through Ditto Query Language, synchronizes incremental changes over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LAN, or the Internet, and uses CRDTs to automatically merge concurrent offline edits. A ROS 2 demonstration shows how robot fleets can preserve shared, durable state during intermittent connectivity by allowing each robot to maintain and synchronize its position and status without relying on a central coordinator, while leaving time-sensitive control traffic within ROS 2. Ditto presents this capability as groundwork for edge AI deployments in which robots, on-site servers, and cloud services share data and decisions across unreliable networks, supporting use cases such as warehouses, farming, drones, emergency response, and remote industrial sites. The preview supports Python 3.10 through 3.13, and users can try it through a quick-start application, a ROS 2 simulation, or a pre-release pip installation.
