Summary

Hector is an obsolete client for the Thrift API, which should be replaced by the DataStax Java Driver. Initially developed to provide features useful in connecting to a datastore, it was designed with J2EE developers in mind and aimed to make working with the Thrift API more comfortable. However, users wanted a more familiar way to interact with datastores. In response, Hector's v2 is being developed as a higher-level API that builds on existing robust features while adding an easier, more intuitive interface. The original API remains largely unchanged, and refactoring has been minimal. A presentation of the new high-level Hector API will be held at the Cassandra Summit in San Francisco.
