Website to JSON: Extract Structured Data from Live Pages
Blog post from Context.dev
Context.dev’s Scrape endpoint can convert data from a known live URL into schema-shaped JSON by rendering the page first and extracting requested fields from its Markdown, JSON-LD, and metadata, making it more suitable than static HTML-to-JSON conversion for JavaScript-heavy sites. Requests use a top-level JSON Schema and optional instructions, while responses should be checked for `json.success`, `isPartial`, null values, errors, and request identifiers even when HTTP status is 200. Rendering waits can be configured with a DOM selector or a timed delay to capture dynamically loaded content, but users must inspect target pages and test configurations rather than assume content has appeared. Schemas establish data structure but do not verify accuracy, so applications remain responsible for validating, normalizing, and applying business rules to extracted values. HTML is intended for markup inspection, Markdown for readable content, and JSON for defined fields; for large URL sets, Batches can asynchronously retrieve Markdown or HTML but cannot produce schema-extracted JSON, requiring separate Scrape calls or custom transformation. Answers is positioned as an alternative for structured responses synthesized from multiple sources rather than extraction from a known page.
