The Impact of Data Streaming in the Public Sector and Healthcare

Confluent’s Data in Motion Tour 2023 highlighted how NASA and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield use Confluent Cloud and Apache Kafka-based data streaming to improve real-time services and modernize operations. NASA’s enterprise cloud initiative supports more than 125 projects, including astronomy alerts through the General Coordinates Network, autonomous-drone data sharing through its Data Reasoning Fabric, and cloud-connected satellite processing through DAPHNE, which aims to reduce remote hardware needs and costs. CareFirst is replacing legacy batch integrations with event streaming to accelerate claims processing, enable near-real-time member enrollment and provider-directory updates, and support mental-health analytics, while reducing development and maintenance workloads.
