New Forrester study: Why modernizing data streaming is about more than cost savings
Blog post from Confluent
A Forrester Total Economic Impact study commissioned by Confluent reports that a composite enterprise using Confluent Cloud achieved a modeled 137% return on investment, USD 2.1 million in net present value, and a 10-month payback period over three years. The central argument is that modernization’s greatest benefit may be recovered engineering capacity rather than infrastructure savings: the organization reportedly reduced platform operations and enablement staffing needs from 10.5 to 3.5 FTEs, with those savings accounting for 79% of quantified benefits, while cutting annual platform incidents from 12 to 4. It also avoided an estimated 360 technical delivery hours for each new or substantially updated streaming use case, aided by reusable data streams, centralized governance, easier data movement, and faster onboarding. The post contends that organizations should assess modernization by the opportunities enabled when teams shift from maintaining infrastructure to delivering AI, customer experience, operational, and digital-service initiatives, citing an example in which loyalty-point posting times fell from two days to 15 minutes. The findings are based on a modeled USD 20 billion-revenue, 25,000-employee enterprise constructed from four customer interviews and may not represent all customer outcomes.
