Hemut: Building the Internet of Freight on Real-Time Data

Hemut, a Y Combinator-backed trucking technology company, is developing an AI-native operating system for U.S. carriers and brokers that combines ERP, transportation management, telematics, voice agents, and workflow automation to reduce administrative work and improve real-time decision-making. Founded by CEO Loki Cheema after early exposure to truckers’ paperwork challenges, the company aims to replace fragmented, batch-based trucking software with a connected “Internet of Freight” in which operational, financial, and vehicle data remain continuously current. Hemut joined Confluent’s Data Streaming AI Accelerator in February 2026 and deployed a Confluent Cloud-based data platform in March, reporting that it has processed more than 286 million events without data loss and delivers vehicle updates to services in about a tenth of a second. The platform supports functions such as automated invoicing and settlements, live dispatch information, predictive maintenance, and integrations with shipper and broker systems, while retaining fleet data separately for each customer. In one large deployment, Hemut identified an estimated 37,000 annual hours of manual work across eight workflows and introduced its technology stack alongside existing systems before transition, positioning its service for both small operators and larger fleets.
