Summary

Coder has announced Coder Agent Relay, a self-hosted execution environment that allows Cursor Cloud Agents to operate within Coder workspaces on customer-controlled cloud, VPC, or on-premises infrastructure, with SpaceXAI serving as the launch partner. Cursor retains responsibility for its familiar application experience, agent planning, and inference, while tool calls run inside governed Coder environments so code, secrets, and internal services remain within enterprise networks. The offering targets regulated organizations such as banks, defense agencies, and government institutions, where vendor-hosted AI tools can conflict with requirements for controlled access, data protection, auditability, and governance. Coder frames Agent Relay as part of an “AI Operating Layer” that centralizes policy enforcement, approved models and resources, task-level sandboxing, network controls, spending limits, and comprehensive activity logs. Each workspace can launch a Cursor worker with an outbound connection to Cursor, enabling platform teams to provision and scale isolated, ephemeral agent environments alongside private code and specialized hardware. Coder plans to extend the approach to additional AI coding providers, while Coder Agent Relay for Cursor is currently available in private preview with design partners.
