Why ClickHouse Cloud wins at real-time analytics
Blog post from ClickHouse
CostBench, a benchmark of continuous data ingestion and analytics across ClickHouse Cloud, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, and Redshift Serverless, reported that ClickHouse Cloud delivered 412× to 1,996× better end-to-end performance per dollar under its methodology, which combined data-preparation costs, query-serving costs, and accumulated query runtime. Using 113.2 billion streamed stock-market quotes, the study found ClickHouse had the lowest reported preparation cost at $28.69, maintained pre-aggregated daily summaries in sync with raw data, and achieved low query cost and runtime, including approximately 15-millisecond aggregate queries and roughly one-second raw-data drill-downs at scale. The post attributes these results to insert-time sorting and materialized-view aggregation, compressed columnar storage, background merges, sparse indexing, vectorized and SIMD execution, and parallel processing across cores and nodes. It also describes ClickHouse Cloud’s separation of storage and compute, allowing ingestion and query workloads to scale independently, and presents customer examples involving Tesla, Cloudflare, Buildkite, Appcues, Mintlify, HighLevel, and Artemis to illustrate applications in real-time analytics, operational decisions, and agent-assisted security investigations.
