Scaling ClickStack alerting with built-in anomaly detection
Blog post from ClickHouse
Managed ClickStack has introduced z-score-based anomaly detection for existing query-builder charts, allowing users to identify unusual changes relative to each metric’s recent history without manually writing baseline SQL. The feature includes adjustable sensitivity, directional triggers, historical previews, safeguards against false positives from minor fluctuations or delayed data, and remains best suited to sudden deviations rather than gradual changes or recurring seasonal patterns. To accommodate organizations migrating large alert collections from platforms such as Grafana, ClickStack has also improved alert scheduling through concurrent configuration loading, metadata reuse, batched writes, background notification delivery, and sharded evaluation across workers. Alert management enhancements include scalable list rendering, searchable names and tags, filters, bookmarked views, Terraform exports, acknowledgement and silencing controls, and detailed histories that show firing states, evaluation data, query performance, backfills, and notification failures. Future plans include alerting on PromQL metrics, seasonality-aware anomaly detection, better handling of noisy or low-volume data, and potentially automated or machine-learning-assisted alert creation.
