Summary

ClickHouse Managed Postgres has expanded Query Insights with wait event metrics that show what active database sessions are waiting on, helping users distinguish whether performance issues stem from disk I/O, locks, timeouts, or CPU activity. The Active sessions by wait type chart displays average active sessions and their share of total load by category, while detailed tooltips and a Waits table identify specific PostgreSQL wait events such as tuple, transaction ID, relation, and advisory locks. Additional charts track the number of blocked sessions and lock-wait durations using p50, p95, and maximum values to reveal the scale and persistence of lock contention. These metrics are also available through the Prometheus endpoint, allowing users to build Grafana dashboards and alerts alongside query throughput, latency, failures, buffer activity, and WAL generation metrics. ClickHouse Agents can further analyze wait events with slow-query and service data to suggest investigation priorities.
