ClickHouse release 26.8

ClickHouse 26.8 is a long-term support release that introduces 98 features, 128 performance optimizations, and 556 bug fixes, alongside contributions from a large group of new community members. Major query enhancements include background execution that continues after client disconnection, PostgreSQL-compatible regular-expression operators and psql commands, array-based subscripting, JSON abstract syntax tree conversion and execution for safer programmatic query generation, relative user-expiration syntax, pipelined SQL, streaming HTTP API capabilities, and per-user query history. The release also fixes materialized-view population race conditions through atomic snapshots, adds Japanese, Chinese, ICU multilingual, and regular-expression-based text tokenizers, and broadens remote-data access through a URL database engine, BigQuery integration, Amazon S3 Tables, Snowflake Horizon, and Apache Iceberg Puffin support. Performance work improves Iceberg metadata loading, native Parquet pruning and lazy materialization, spatial GeoParquet queries, GROUP BY execution, and join planning and algorithms, including parallel merge joins and a cost-based optimizer for distributed queries.
