Summary

ClickHouse and dbt Labs announced a public beta of the ClickHouse adapter for dbt v2, a Rust-based rewrite of dbt that uses the Apache Arrow Database Connectivity driver and ships directly with the dbt binary, alongside a private beta that makes ClickHouse a natively supported connection on dbt Platform. The existing Python-based dbt-clickhouse adapter, maintained since 2021 and used by more than 2,000 production teams, will continue to be supported in parallel while the v2 adapter approaches feature parity. The integration is intended to bring dbt’s testing, documentation, contracts, and lineage capabilities to ClickHouse’s real-time analytical workloads, including materialized views, streaming ingestion, high concurrency, and deployment across self-managed ClickHouse, ClickHouse Cloud, and BYOC environments. dbt Labs reports that dbt v2 can parse projects up to 30 times faster than v1, while the beta adapter currently passes more than 81% of the dbt v1 integration suite and 92% of applicable ClickHouse Cloud tests. The v2 adapter is not yet recommended for production workloads, and both companies are seeking beta feedback to prioritize remaining capabilities such as distributed materializations, ON CLUSTER DDL, Fusion features, and broader dbt Platform functionality.
