The AI Coding Revolution Meets the Data Connectivity Standard
Blog post from CData
AI coding platforms such as Cursor, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot can accelerate data-driven application development, but they often lack access to an organization’s live schemas and custom configurations, which can lead to incorrect integration code. CData Code Assist MCP uses the Model Context Protocol to provide these tools with live metadata from more than 350 enterprise and cloud data sources through CData’s standardized SQL-based connectors, enabling schema exploration, query validation, and generation of Java, .NET, and Python code. The approach is intended to reduce debugging and development time for applications such as ETL pipelines, dashboards, SaaS integrations, and embedded connectivity products, while allowing generated code to use the same JDBC, ADO.NET, and Python drivers deployed in production. MCP is used only during development, so deployed applications do not require runtime LLM calls or MCP dependencies, and CData manages authentication, query optimization, API changes, and consistent schema behavior across development and production.
