Comparing Native Salesforce MCP with CData Connect AI (2026)
Blog post from CData
After Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol in late 2024, native MCP servers from enterprise vendors such as Salesforce emerged alongside managed connectivity platforms, prompting comparisons over their roles in production AI systems. A test using eight live-data Salesforce scenarios found that both Salesforce’s native MCP server and CData Connect AI handled basic reads, filtering, date queries, and picklist metadata, but Connect AI passed all eight tests while the native server passed four, chiefly because it lacked server-side aggregation, GROUP BY operations, and flexible cross-object joins. Across 13 capabilities, Connect AI supported 10 and emphasized SQL-based analytics, multi-source joins, bulk operations, and centralized governance, while the native Salesforce MCP supported seven and offered stronger Salesforce-specific metadata, field-level security visibility, SOQL date literals, and direct record writes. The comparison concludes that native Salesforce MCP is more suited to single-system, schema-aware write workflows, whereas Connect AI is positioned for analytical, reporting, and cross-system workloads where data-layer computation can reduce client-side processing, round trips, and token usage.
