Bridge the Gap Between LLMs and Business Data: How CData MCP Servers Finally Level Up Enterprise AI
Blog post from CData
Generative AI can become more useful in workplaces when large language models gain secure, real-time access to structured enterprise data held in systems such as Salesforce, Jira, ERPs, and document repositories. The Model Context Protocol enables LLM tools, but the passage argues that SQL offers a more universal interface for querying, joining, filtering, and analyzing business data when paired with detailed metadata about entities and their relationships. CData proposes addressing inconsistent enterprise APIs through connectors that translate SQL into source-specific API calls across more than 350 data sources while optimizing query execution. Its newly announced free beta CData MCP Servers wrap these connectors in MCP tools, allowing LLMs to inspect data models, execute SQL queries, and potentially make updates on users’ behalf. The approach emphasizes live access rather than data replication, user-specific credentials, source-system role controls, and auditable activity to address security and compliance requirements. A technical preview integrating the servers with Anthropic’s Claude is presented as an early example of infrastructure intended to support secure, action-oriented enterprise AI agents.
