Join us for the Hackathon for Natural Disaster Management, in Quito! CARTO is going to Ecuador to participate in a hackathon focused on using geospatial technology and data to create innovative solutions for disaster risk management. This event was initiated by the Mayor's Office of Quito, the Laboratory for Innovation of Quito, and the IDB's Knowledge and Learning Department. The city of Quito has been leveraging technology to better understand and prepare for natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions. Ecuador has experienced significant seismic activity in recent years, including a devastating earthquake in 2016 that caused widespread damage and loss of life. The hackathon aims to bring together private sector, local government, nonprofits, and the tech community to develop innovative solutions using geospatial technology and data. Prizes include $10,000 for first place and a 6-month CARTO enterprise account for the best visualization project. CARTO has already demonstrated its value in various projects related to disaster management and mapping. The event is expected to be a valuable opportunity for collaboration and innovation in Quito.
