Puerto Rico leads the U.S. in the number of eco-friendly lodgings and customer reviews for green properties, according to a study by Bright Data researchers who analyzed data from TripAdvisor and Airbnb. The study highlights that Vermont, Connecticut, Kansas, North Dakota, and Puerto Rico have the highest percentage of green travel lodgings, with Vermont offering travelers twice the likelihood of finding eco-friendly accommodations compared to other states. Using data scraped from TripAdvisor and Airbnb, researchers identified properties as "green" based on certifications and descriptions and found that Puerto Rico, Idaho, Oklahoma, Alaska, and Wisconsin have the highest customer ratings for such lodgings. Among hotel chains, Marriott is the most likely to have a Green Leader certification, followed by Hyatt and Best Western, while Wyndham is the least likely. The study underscores the growing interest in sustainable travel as the U.S. travel and tourism market is expected to reach $198.7 billion, providing eco-conscious travelers with new destinations to explore.
