Zed has launched its preview channel to the public, previously available only to internal users and a select community group, allowing all users early access to upcoming features before their official release. This platform is a significant component of Zed's development cycle, enabling the identification and resolution of bugs before they impact stable builds. The release process involves merging changes into the main branch, then creating a preview branch a week ahead of the stable release. Users interested in experimenting with new features are encouraged to use the preview channel, although they should be prepared for potential bugs and crashes. Larger features may remain in preview longer to ensure stability, and not all features in the preview will necessarily make it to the stable build. Users can install the preview version alongside the stable one, with both auto-updating, and provide feedback via Discord, issue tracker, or Twitter. Collaboration requires all parties to be on the same channel. Zed is also inviting users to try their editor on macOS or Linux and is hiring for positions related to their software development endeavors.
