When systems won’t talk, Nicholas Francoeur builds the bridge
Blog post from Zapier
Compucom infrastructure technology manager Nicholas Francoeur addressed inefficient field operations by building Zapier-based integrations after existing inventory and scheduling tools could not support the company’s nationwide scale. Technicians had previously spent full shifts manually recording equipment details from photos, producing a 25% error rate, while scheduling 600 to 700 site projects required up to 20 hours weekly and major rescheduling took more than 40 hours. The new asset workflow uses a web form, AI by Zapier image processing, inventory reference data, Zapier Tables, and OCR validation to extract and verify device information, while a separate integration transfers spreadsheet scheduling data into Resource Guru through its API. By assigning AI to interpret unstructured inputs and deterministic automation to move verified data between systems, Compucom reduced site surveys to two to four hours, lowered asset-entry errors to about 1%, cut weekly scheduling to roughly one hour, and reduced large rescheduling efforts to about two hours. The system now supports hundreds of client sites and is being adapted with other internal teams for broader use.
