What is Qwen AI?
Blog post from Zapier
Qwen, a family of open AI models from Alibaba Cloud, has gained prominence for its transparency and robust capabilities, with its latest iteration, Qwen3, featuring prominently in benchmarks. The Qwen3 models, released under an Apache 2.0 license, are available in eight versions, combining mixture-of-experts and dense architectures to address diverse performance and deployment needs, and they support 119 languages. Notably, Qwen3 employs a hybrid approach with both Thinking and Non-Thinking Modes, allowing users to allocate a reasoning budget for tasks. The flagship model, Qwen3-235B-A22B, excels in advanced reasoning, math, and coding tasks, leveraging a mixture-of-experts architecture with 235 billion parameters. Qwen3's training involved a 36 trillion token dataset across three stages, enhancing language skills, knowledge-intensive data, and long-context capabilities, while post-training further developed reasoning and quick-response abilities. Despite concerns about censorship in Chinese-developed models, Qwen3 is available through various platforms, offering powerful open model capabilities that challenge the dominance of American tech companies in AI development.
