What is Claude Cowork? The powerful AI assistant for non-developers
Blog post from Zapier
Claude Cowork, developed by Anthropic, is an agentic AI feature built on the Claude chatbot interface, designed to assist non-developers by performing tasks across files and apps. Unlike typical chat-based AI tools, Cowork can autonomously execute tasks by accessing designated files and folders on a user's computer, as well as integrating with various productivity apps like Asana, Notion, and Slack through extensions such as a Chrome browser connector. Users can assign tasks in plain language, and Cowork methodically plans and executes these tasks, providing real-time updates and seeking user permissions for actions like file deletions. Although currently limited to macOS users with Pro or Max plans, Cowork offers substantial utility by organizing files, creating documents, analyzing data, and performing research, all while maintaining security through restricted access to specific folders. Despite its promising capabilities, it is a feature preview with limitations, such as lack of session memory and compatibility with Google Workspace, and it requires careful management due to inherent security risks associated with its agentic nature.
