Preparing for success: Lessons learned from early mistakes in a small business
Blog post from Zapier
I spent money on marketing myself as a graphic designer and makeup artist after graduating from school, but ultimately failed to pursue those careers. I realized my true passion was for making lace wigs and turned that hobby into a career with the launch of Allure Wigs in April 2020. Initially, I struggled to scale my business model due to the time-consuming process of handcrafting each wig, which led to complaints from potential customers about high prices and long lead times. I later found a manufacturer that allowed me to purchase wigs in bulk, but failed to communicate effectively with them, resulting in a missed order. However, instead of giving up, I learned valuable lessons about being proactive, preparing for success, having a backup plan, and not letting one setback define my business's future.
