Give your AI by Zapier step tools to act on your apps

AI by Zapier steps can now use app actions, knowledge sources, and web browsing as tools, allowing a single AI step to retrieve information, evaluate it, and trigger downstream actions based on a prompt. Users choose which apps and accounts the AI can access, while the AI determines which available tools to call for tasks such as checking Shopify orders against refund policies, researching leads and updating Slack, or reconciling invoices in Airtable. Safeguards include approval requirements for actions that create, update, or delete data, fixed fields for limiting AI control, and activity logs showing every tool call and its outcome. Tools are configured within an AI by Zapier step’s Tools and Knowledge settings, but are unavailable to steps created before June 15, 2026 and require eligible paid plans and an Advanced or Premium model or compatible API key. Usage is charged per AI run and successful tool call, with costs varying by model tier and configurable task limits.
