YSQL Connection Manager is Now GA
Blog post from Yugabyte
YugabyteDB 2026.1.1, YugabyteDB Anywhere, and YugabyteDB Aeon introduce the generally available YSQL Connection Manager, a database-native connection pooler designed to reduce PostgreSQL-style per-connection overhead without requiring application changes or separate proxy infrastructure. It uses transaction-level pooling while preserving session state through database-layer tracking rather than SQL parsing, allowing settings, protocol-level prepared statements, notifications, and transaction-scoped advisory locks to work across pooled backends; sessions using features such as temporary tables, LISTEN, SQL-level PREPARE, WITH HOLD cursors, or SET ROLE are automatically pinned to a backend. Built into every YugabyteDB node and enabled through a setting or platform UI, the multi-threaded service scales with the cluster, supports unified and fair pool allocation, and includes native TLS and several authentication methods. YugabyteDB reports more than 13,000 authenticated connections per second per node and over 10,000 logical clients with 1–3 milliseconds of added latency in benchmark conditions, though IPv6, Unix-domain sockets, and Kerberos are not yet supported, and the service uses about 200 MB of memory per node.
