Introducing WireMock Chaos: API Mocking Meets Chaos Engineering
Blog post from WireMock
WireMock Cloud's new Chaos feature enables developers to simulate complex API failure scenarios to enhance the resilience of their applications by introducing chaos engineering practices into API testing. Initially developed by Netflix, chaos engineering is used to intentionally create controlled failure scenarios such as network latency or API response delays, allowing teams to identify system weaknesses and improve fault tolerance. The feature allows users to simulate various API failures, including socket issues, long delays, and invalid HTTP responses, thus enabling more realistic integration tests and helping to prevent production disasters by uncovering issues in a test environment. By using the WireMock Cloud web UI, users can easily configure the extent and type of failures they want to test, facilitating early problem detection and cost-effective testing. Available to all WireMock users, this innovation aims to prepare applications for real-world disruptions by offering both free and paid account holders the chance to test their systems under simulated stress conditions.
