The updated model is noted for being more steerable, less prone to overthinking, and improved in frontend design capabilities. It also boasts increased speed by dynamically adjusting its reasoning depth according to task complexity. GPT-5.1 will be the default model for a week after its release, and all paid users are granted free access for the first seven days. Users can download Windsurf to experience the latest models.
