Why communication between design teams is essential for our industry

In response to the shift from in-person to remote gatherings, a unique initiative called "design fikas" emerged as a means to foster inter-company collaboration among design teams. Inspired by the Swedish social tradition of fika, these virtual coffee breaks involve informal, hour-long meetings between two design teams using video conferencing tools like Zoom. With a flexible structure that includes introductions, breakout sessions, and group discussions, design fikas encourage participants to share insights on predetermined topics, from professional growth to lighter subjects like bread making. This format not only facilitates meaningful connections and shared experiences but also adapts to the evolving nature of remote work and networking, enabling teams to maintain inspiration and community ties despite physical distance.
